CREW Orange County September Luncheon

Anatomy of the Deal

Chapman University - Musco Center of the Performing Arts

Chapman University made a highly visible investment in their performing arts program, evidenced by the magnificent new Marybelle and Sebastian P. Musco Center for the Arts which opened March 19, 2016. In 2016, the Musco Center of the Performing Arts won in the new construction category for outstanding performance and significant and positive impact in the Orange County real estate market.

The 88,000-square-foot facility gives students and faculty an opportunity to achieve the highest standard of arts-related education, offering hands-on experience with renowned arts organizations.  The facility boasts design by the award-winning architects Pfeiffer Partners, and acoustics by Yasuhisa Toyota of Nagata Acoustics, arguably the top acoustician in the world today, whose projects include Disney Hall and Stanford’s Bing Concert Hall, among many others. The center’s namesakes, Marybelle and Sebastian P. Musco, are longtime supporters of Chapman, and the philanthropists’ generous donation launched a multi-year drive to open the $82 million facility. At the heart of the center is the Julianne Argyros Orchestra Hall with 1,044 seats on three levels and a full-scale stagehouse capable of grand spectacle or lush symphonic sound with its orchestral shell in place. Mark Swed of the Los Angeles Times proclaimed, “The city of Orange now houses an ideal opera house, potentially the best in the West and maybe even something more...”
